A bit of trivia: Real-life sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning were supposed to star in this movie together, however, rumor has it that Dakota pulled out and took Elle with her because she didn't want to shave her head for the role (Can you really blame her?). After reading the novel, I'm really curious to see the film adaptation, especially since it is being directed by Peter Jackson, the man behind the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the remake of King Kong.
